Year 10 students thought about their futures during a visit by Human Utopia this week.

Students took part in a day of activities in the theatre on Wednesday under the scheme, which aims to change young peoples’ lives by getting them thinking about their lives and encouraging them to make the most of life.

During the session on Wednesday, one of the activities involved students being separated into four areas – north, south, east and west – and each group of students was presented with a different scenario for their lives in 10 years. They were encouraged to think about which life they would prefer to be leading.

Students were also asked to volunteer to go up on stage and tell other students what their dream is.

Ciaran Lethbridge went on stage and spoke about his dream of wanting to become an architect and Ewan McConnachie spoke about his dream to become a pilot or an actor.

Other students spoke about their dreams, which included becoming a nurse, a marine biologist and a singer.

Tiago Ferreira told the other students about his dream of becoming a plumber. He said: “I thought Human Utopia was really good and it made me think about my opportunities in life. It opened me up to what’s out there in the world outside of school.”

Charlie Underwood said: “I thought it would be boring but actually, it touched me. I do actually want to change for the better.

“I did have a dream, to be a midwife, but I kept it to myself because I was embarrassed to say it – but now I wouldn’t be embarrassed to tell everyone.”
