Thomas Clarkson Academy employee and former student Amber Doyle has been shortlisted in the Young Apprentice of the Year category of the Fenland Business Awards.

Amber, 19, left the Academy in 2013 after completing her A-Levels and is now the school’s IT apprentice.

Her role includes IT support and training, running the technical side of school productions and maintaining IT equipment.

She said: “I am really happy to have been shortlisted for the award and didn’t even know I had been nominated! It was a lovely surprise and I have had a lot of support from the school. I am enjoying my apprenticeship here as there is always a lot to do and no two days are the same. I like the sense of achievement I get from my work.”

TCA’s Business Manager Allison Baverstock said: “Amber is a valued member of staff at Thomas Clarkson Academy and has really made an impact in the school since she began her apprenticeship with us. We are very proud that she has been shortlisted as Apprentice of the Year.”

Colin Robertson, Amber’s trainer/assessor at the College of West Anglia nominated Amber for the award and said: “Amber is an ideal apprentice. She is making great progress and is able to develop her own IT skills and knowledge. She has a wide range of skills across different software and technology and has done what was asked and more for her college portfolio.”
