A painter whose work has been bought by singer Sheryl Crow and actress Julia Roberts visited the Academy to speak to students about her work.

Lynne Windsor, who is studying for an MA in Print Making at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, visited the Academy on Thursday, October 4.

She showed Year 11 BTEC art students a portfolio of her paintings and prints and explained to them the different methods and techniques she had used and the personal reasons why she had chosen certain themes.

Art teacher Rob Dempsey said: “The students are currently exploring animals in art as a theme so Lynne showed her beautiful paintings of birds and birds’ nests and delicate and finely drawn prints of insects and dragonflies.

“She discussed her experience of being an artist, her approach to producing art work, dealing with galleries, museums and commissions for private clients and public institutions, and how being self- employed as an artist requires business skills.”

Lynne also did a practical demonstration of one of her techniques which the students then applied to their own work.

Mr Dempsey said: “The students appreciated having a chance to meet with an experienced and friendly artist and Lynne was very appreciative of the students’ enthusiasm , curiosity and  standard of work.”

Lynne has been painting full-time for the last 18 years and lived in the United States, where she had work displayed in various museums.

She has previously been invited to exhibit her work in the Albuquerque museum and the Oklahoma Heritage Museum.

Student Kyle Roberts said: “Seeing Lynne’s paintings and talking to her has encouraged me to want to do something art related as a career.”

Student Kieran Brown said: “I found her work very creative and unique and I liked her advice to do what you love.”
