Thomas Clarkson Academy is taking part in a new programme to get young people more involved with their communities.

Get Set for Community Action is an initiative which has been Funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of the Spirit of 2012 campaign and aims to strengthen relationships between young people and their local communities through the Olympic Values (friendship, excellence and respect) and the Paralympic Values (courage, determination, equality and inspiration).

TCA has been named as a Champion School and awarded £1000 in funding to deliver a project for the local community. The plan is to work with a local primary school to create a disability sports event. The project will be led by the TCA Young Ambassadors.

Director of Sport at the Brooke Weston Trust and TCA PE teacher Kirstie Smith and Young Ambassadors Alex Bishop and Kelly McManus went along to the launch event held at Aston Villa Football Club, Birmingham. The students met sprinter Christian Malcolm and Paralympic rower David White.

Miss Smith said: “Ourselves and fellow Brooke Weston Trust School Corby Business Academy are in the 100 schools who were selected to take part in the event.

“This is a great opportunity for us to work in the community and for the Young Ambassadors to learn some new skills.”
