Students work on mural at primary school

TCA students worked with students at Wisbech St Mary Primary School on a special mural to be displayed at their school.

The students went over to the primary school on three days before half term.

Teacher Emma Guppy said: “I went to the school and they showed me the space for the mural, which is an external space just outside the staff room in the playground.

“They wanted the mural to be local so I suggested the students go out and tell me what’s important. They took photographs and did drawings that were sent over to me and I drew a composition from that.

“Then we went into the school and were there for three days.

“Our students were amazing with the Year 5s.”

The mural was created on MDF sheets which will eventually be nailed to the wall.

On the third day of TCA visits three Year 10 students went along with Ms Guppy and did some work with the Year 5s on a mosaic to go in the centre of the mural.

The work will go in the TCA students’ books and will count towards their GCSEs as evidence of them experimenting with new media.

Year 8 student Shona Graham, who went along to help with the mural, said: “I went for two days. We drew it onto the wood and started painting it, it got quite messy. It was massive, I was pleased with it in the end.”
