Year 11 student Thomas Norman spent hours working on creating a trike, restoring old parts and making new parts, for a controlled assessment as part of his GCSE Resistant Materials course.

Students were given the choice of creating a product under several categories and other students created work including CD towers and coffee tables.

To create his product Thomas cut off the back of a bicycle, restored the frame to new and created the rest of the trike himself, with some help from his father at home.

Thomas sanded and spray painted the trike to create his finished product

He said: “I prefer metal to wood, so I chose to do this. Resistant Materials is a subject I enjoy and I’m going to do Product Design at A level.”

Teacher Dermot Raftery said: “Thomas’ trike was great, I think he did a really good job.”
