More than 200 pupils from eight primary schools visited Thomas Clarkson Academy to perform Fen Song, a show of singing and drama put together by the children involved.

Fen Song was performed to an audience of parents in the Thomas Clarkson Academy theatre on Friday, March 1st.

The show featured children from Peckover, Leverington, Alderman Payne, Wisbech St Mary, Murrow, Guyhirn, Burrowmoor and All Saints primary schools.

The show was a performance of a series of scenes inspired by Don Quixote which was led by musical director Claire Bloor.

Pam Clark from the Wisbech Schools’ Partnership said: “The children were very much responsible for writing the songs. Claire worked with them on the storyline and they created the songs themselves, so it was almost like a children’s opera.

“Each school had three workshops to prepare their contributions to the show.

“The children really responded to the big occasion, it was a superb performance and they managed the big space extremely well.”

Clare Claxton, Principal of Thomas Clarkson Academy, said: “We are always pleased to welcome pupils from our local primary schools to the academy for visits and events, so it was great to welcome these pupils for Fen Song.

“It was one of the first major events in our new theatre and the children put on a fantastic show.”

Fen Song was funded by Cambridgeshire County Council’s cultural fund.
