Our Year 7 rugby team were overall runners-up in a rugby tournament.

The Year 7 and 8 rugby teams took place in the competition in Ely in April.

The Year 7 team (pictured above) made it all the way to the final, where they narrowly lost to Soham 15 - 10.

Teacher James Hooper said: “The Year 7s played some great rugby and deserved to get into the final.

“They may have lost in the final but they can hold their heads up high.

“Many coaches commented on their fluid play and direct running, it was an excellent performance.”

Year 7 team captain Frank Etherington said: “We all worked together to get as far as we did in the tournament. It was really fun.

“I was really proud that a Thomas Clarkson team had got all the way to the final, to see us doing well in rugby is great.”

The Year 8 team made it through the group phase of the competition and finished in 8th place overall.

Mr Hooper said: “Making it through the group phase was an achievement, as the standard was very good. The Year 8 team won two matches and lost three.

“The referee of the competition pulled the Year 8 team to one side at the end and spoke to them about how well they had handled themselves.

“He named them the team of the tournament for their spirit and determination.”
