Students who have been shadowing the Carnegie Medal in their own time met with other students to share their views on the shortlisted books on the day the winning title was announced.

Our Carnegie Shadowing Group has been meeting after school this term. Students have been reading the books shortlisted for the medal and discussing their thoughts on them as a group.

The students who have been involved travelled to the Voyager Academy in Peterborough on Wednesday (June 19th) for a day of activities to mark the announcement of the winner.

They spent the day with students from Voyager and Thomas Deacon Academy talking about the books they’d read and taking part in quizzes.

The Thomas Clarkson students also gave a presentation on what they’d learned from Louise Aldridge, a former Carnegie judge who came in after school to talk to them about the judging process.

Leader of the Learning Information Centre, Debbie Trafford, said: “The group seemed to enjoy the experience and the discussions.”

The winner of the Carnegie Medal was ‘Maggot Moon’ by Sally Gardner.
