Sporty Charlotte Up For Award

Charlotte Cameron is in the running to be named the Peterborough Telegraph’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year.

Charlotte Cameron is in the running to be named the Peterborough Telegraph’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year.

The talented kickboxer who is current British and Chinese Kickboxing Association (BCKA) National Champion, is hoping to win the award to say thank you to her supportive parents who take her to training and fund competition trips across Britain.

The Year 9 student, who has only begun kickboxing three years ago, and has since won regional, national, British and European titles, said: “If I won this award it would be a way of saying thanks to my parents who have been really supportive.

“They take me to training in Corby a number of times each week and pay for all my competitions.

“This is a sport that I am really dedicated to however and so if I did win the award it would go to someone who has a long term commitment to their sport.”

Charlotte’s ambition is to become a World Champion.

She said: “The key to my success has been dedication to the training. I got into the sport after seeing a leaflet and thinking that I would give it a try and after joining a club in Peterborough I now train with Alex Barrowman in Corby, who is one of the best coaches out there.”

Charlotte is now in an intensive eight week training programme for the Irish Open which takes in Dublin in March.

But she does not let her training interfere with her studies. She reads homework on the journey and then will miss training if she has school work to do.

She said: “That is the deal that I had with my parents. Who said they would give me their full support as long as I did not let my academic studies suffer.”

The award is voted for by Peterborough ET readers.
