Holocaust Memorial Day

Next week sees the annual commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day on Thursday, January 27.

The date is the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz Birkenau death camp in 1945 and is also used to remember those lost in other genocides, including Rwanda, Bosnia, Cambodia and Darfur.

Each year there are services and acts of remembrance where people can learn more about past genocides to help make the future better for all of us. This year's theme is One Day and for further information, including events, see www.hmd.org .uk

Our academy library has a number of titles which are relevant to HMD and the Book Trust has an interesting article featuring Michael Rosen here. Last year, Anne Frank's step-sister Eva told her remarkable story which you can follow on this link and Cambridgeshire libraries have reading suggestions for adults and children here
