Two teachers at Thomas Clarkson Academy have qualified as Duke of Edinburgh Award assessors.

Lucy-Beth Heighton and Daniel Hudson attended an assessors training course and joined a group of students at a campsite in Rutland where they worked alongside an accredited assessor to mark and sign off the group’s expedition.

Miss Heighton, centre manager for TCA’s Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, said: “I never had the opportunity to do the Duke of Edinburgh Award which is why I wanted to give our students the opportunity to do it.

“It is consistently recognised as one of the things employers look for on a CV. It is a nationally recognised award which helps students to demonstrate commitment, progress and responsibility. They have to go above and beyond what is expected and challenge themselves. It is also really good fun.”

Around 25 students at the academy are currently taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award during the school’s session 6 enrichment sessions, with 5 already achieving their bronze award.
