Students at Thomas Clarkson Academy paid tribute to the fallen during a special remembrance assembly on Tuesday.

The entire school came together for the moving ceremony organised and led entirely by the students.

Year 11 student Ainsley Crowson led a parade of cadets into the centre of the school, followed by prefects and the school’s Young Interpreters, who carried flags representing different nationalities who have been affected by the wars.

Cornet player Andrew Betts, from Year 10, played The Last Post and around 1,400 students and members of staff observed the 2 minutes silence.

Ainsley also read a poem about the importance of wearing a poppy and remembering the soldiers who gave their lives.

Teacher Imogen Newell said: “It was a lovely occasion and organised entirely by the students for the students. The entire school was respectful of that moment and we are very proud of them all.”
