University visit for Sixth Formers

Students were given a real insight into university life when they visited Northampton University.

37 Year 12 students visited the campus in Northampton and discovered what student life entails, from studying to social life, accommodation and finances.

CEIAG Ambassador Vick Read said: “The day made university seem very real to our students.

“They were split into two groups and were then given information about what would be involved if they chose to study English or geography.

“As part of the day they were able to look around the campus and were also able to see the accommodation.

“They also had a talk from the Admissions team who emphasised the need to get applications in early; current Year 12 students can apply from this September.

“The finance and repayment system was also explained fully and students were made aware of current payment terms.”

Head of Sixth Form Jess Smith said: “The Northampton University taster day provided the Year 12 students with an insightful experience into university life, both academically and socially. All students deepened their understanding of what they are looking for within their own higher education options and felt inspired to seek more similar experiences this year”.

Mrs Read said: “University can be an opportunity for students to broaden their horizons. Students should really think about all aspects of what university life involves. The course is obviously hugely important but they should also give consideration to what sort of university they wish to go to. Do they want to experience life in a city of go to a university campus on the outskirts of a town or city? There is a big difference.

“If students want any further advice or to talk about their options our CEIAG team is always open for them to talk to.”
