Students learn about Guy Fawkes on November 5th

Students in our Cooper Centre created their own paper ‘fireworks’ and learned about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot during a themed day.

On Monday, November 5, students spent the day learning more about Guy Fawkes and wrote profiles on each of his co-conspirators.

They then made their own paper ‘fireworks’ by separating ink though chromatography and by blowing paint through straws onto paper.

Their efforts have been put on display on a board in the Cooper Centre.

Lead teacher for the Cooper Centre, Mary Harper, said: “We found out about the conspirators and discovered they were all young men when they died.

“Then we did some maths using a firework price list and worked out the best offers.”

Year 8 student Jamie Walker said: “I learned a bit about Guy Fawkes last year so it was interesting to learn more.”
