Sophie Makes a Splash

Year 7 student Sophie Fenner helped Wisbech Swimming Club to achieve a historic win in the Junior Fenland League.

Year 7 student Sophie Fenner helped Wisbech Swimming Club to achieve a historic win in the Junior Fenland League.

Sophie, who has been competing since she was nine, was part of the team which swam to victory at Peterborough swimming pool on Saturday 7th October – the first time Wisbech Swimming Club have won the junior league since 1986.

Sophie came 4th in the 50m butterfly, securing points which went towards her team’s final tally.

She said: “If you get disqualified you don’t get any points. We were at the top of the league after the first couple of events at the start of the day and we went on to win. Our coach was very happy because the club hasn’t won it for a long time.

“What I like best about swimming is when we win competitions as a team and when we swim as a team.”

To make it onto the Wisbech team, Sophie had to progress through several stages before being awarded a place. She swims four times a week and says her favourite style of swimming is the front crawl and the fly.

Sophie’s next challenge is the club championship – we wish her the best of luck.
