Students have been discovering how to greet people in a number of languages as TCA marks World Hello Day today (Wednesday, November 21).

A competition is being run throughout school and all entries must be put into the box in the library by the end of the day.

To enter students have to take the competition form they were given in respect time and ask teachers and other students, including our young interpreters, to tell them what the word ‘hello’ is in another language.

The student then has to write down the word and the language and get the person who told them the word to sign their sheet.

The challenge is to collect at least 10 ‘hellos’.

The competition winner will be chosen on Thursday and will win a gift card for the Luxe cinema in Wisbech.

Year 7 student Ruben Balde (pictured) collected hellos in languages including Portuguese, Latvian, Welsh, Russian, German, Lithuanian and Japanese.

He said: “I already knew how to say hello in Chinese and I got the teachers and some of my friends to tell me the others. Mrs Trafford told me what hello was in German and French.

“I learnt some new ones I didn’t know - Turkish, Polish and Greek.

“It was interesting, I like learning languages.”
