Love of Books Unites Students From Across the World

A bookmark exchange project with other European schools has led to TCA students writing to pupils in other countries to learn out more about their culture.

Students produced their own bookmarks with designs based on their favourite books, and sent them to a school in Hungary.

They received responses complete with email addresses so students could communicate with each other.

Emma Parkinson in Year 8 has been emailing Hungarian student Norina Széles.

She said: “We’ve emailed each other a few times and we’ve been finding out a bit about each other. She likes reading, like me.

“I think it’s a good idea because you get to find out about other cultures – you get used to life in England so it’s good to find out about different countries. It’s nice to have someone my age to write to. I’d like to find out more about Norina’s life.”

The aim of the International Bookmark Exchange Project is to encourage students to share their love of reading, make new friends and learn about other cultures.

Librarian Debbie Trafford has also received a number of bookmarks from a school in Portugal.
