TCA students will be among those who take to the stage in ‘Greater Expectations’, a specially-written play which will be performed in TCA’s theatre on Wednesday, December 5.

The play looks at the reforming work done by Charles Dickens, including his role in setting up a humane refuge for women. It also explores the achievements of many great social reformers who once lived in Wisbech – Victorians such as Octavia Hill (founder of the National Trust) and her father James, who set up one of Britain’s first cooperative shops.

The show is being performed to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Dickens and has been made possible thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Along with TCA students the celebrations will include actors from the Wisbech Players, writers from the Wisbech branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) and other local volunteers.

The play will be in three parts - a prologue written and performed by the U3A writers’ group, a scene improvised by TCA students and a main play researched and written by Mike Levy of Keystage Arts and Heritage with the help of the  Wisbech and Fenland Museum. Direction and production will be overseen by Lesley Ford of Keystage and local drama specialist Linda Ekins.

Tickets are free on the door and the show will begin at 7pm.
