Inspiring STEM Day for Year 10 Students

Cambridge University, in collaboration with the charity SheCanEngineer, recently hosted a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Day through their Women in Engineering Society. The event welcomed a small group of TCA’s Year 10 students, providing them with a unique opportunity to explore the world of engineering.
The day was packed with engaging activities, starting with a workshop where students debated ideas and tackled problem-solving challenges. They were also treated to inspiring lectures from a PhD student and a representative from the Engineering Research Fellowship, both of whom shared their personal journeys in the field of engineering.
One of the highlights of the event was the speed networking session, where students interacted with industry professionals from various engineering institutions. This allowed them to gain insights into different areas of expertise and learn about potential career paths.
Students expressed their enthusiasm for the event, with one stating "I very much enjoyed the networking, as it gave me ideas about what I wanted to do." The tour of the Engineering Department also left a lasting impression, one student noted, "I really found the tour of the Engineering Department fascinating, as it showed us their daily routine." Another added, "I enjoyed looking at opportunities after GCSEs." Careers Leader Mrs Smith remarked "This was a great opportunity to encourage more girls to consider engineering careers and to celebrate women in engineering."
Overall, the STEM Day at Cambridge University was a resounding success, inspiring the next generation of female engineers and highlighting the importance of diversity in the field.
