Reading up on Refugee Week

A Day of Welcome is marked on Friday, June 16, Refugee Week runs from June 19 to 25 and World Refugee Day is June 20 - so there are no excuses for not reading around the topic.

Refugee Week is a UK-wide festival celebrating the contribution, creativity and resilience of refugees and those seeking sanctuary. It enables people from different backgrounds to connect while encouraging greater understanding of why people are displaced and the challenges they face.

Founded in 1998, it is held every year around World Refugee Day on June 20, and Refugee Week aims to see asylum seekers and refugees to be able to live safely in inclusive and resilient communities.

The Day of Welcome is a day of solidarity and learning in schools which aims to build a culture of  understanding.

There are many titles in our library which are linked to the subject, and you are welcome to borrow them to learn more about the lives of refugees or asylum-seekers and how they overcome the difficulties of being a displaced person.
