Students bridge the generation gap to forge friendships

Our sixth formers have been making friends in town - and bridging the generation gap.

A scheme to build friendships through a dementia befriending scheme has been paying dividends all round.

Our sixth form students have been meeting with residents at Lyncroft Care Home under the YOPEY scheme established in 2012.

"Over the months the students have built up meaningful relationships with our residents, many of whom are living with dementia. We can see the students' visits have a positive impact on people's moods and overall wellbeing," said home manager Clair Taylor.

The initiative may even inspire some students to consider forging a career in the care sector.
