Year 8 student Kasie Thorpe has been given an award for the enthusiasm and interest she showed during a school trip.

Kasie visited Castle Acre in King’s Lynn last term when she was in Year 7.

She was given the Keith Day Castle Acre Award for outstanding achievement as recognition of her enthusiasm and dedication on the day.

Kasie was presented with a cup and certificate by Academy Principal Clare Claxton and the Head of the King Learning Community Sarah Loosemore during a King assembly.

The award was founded last year as a retirement present to geography teacher Keith Day, who was one of the founders of the trip over 25 years ago and has taken an active part in the organisation and delivery of it ever since.

Kasie said: “When we went to Castle Acre we went for walks, we went in some parts of the castle and we went up a tunnel. It was really good.

“I was surprised to get the cup.”

Head of Humanities Lucy-Beth Heighton said: “Kasie showed great enthusiasm and interest throughout the trip and in particular we were very impressed with the questions she asked throughout the day. This showed outstanding enquiry skills.

“As a team we felt she got a lot out of the day and deserved to be the first ever student to win the award.”

Mrs Loosemore said: “Kasie gave dedication, commitment and enthusiasm to the day. She got stuck into the activities, enjoyed it and made the most of the day.”
