A group of students have been reading and appraising the books which have been shortlisted for this year’s Carnegie Medal.

The group meets after school on Wednesdays and members are busy working their way through the eight titles which have been shortlisted.

The students will read the eight books and choose their Carnegie winner before the award winner is announced nationally on June 19th.

The CILIP Carnegie Medal is awarded annually by children's librarians to a book which they consider to be an outstanding title for children and young people. Alongside this award, the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal is awarded to a book which is outstanding in terms of illustration.

Our students have been writing reviews of the titles they have read and posting them on their Thomas Clarkson Academy Carnegie Shadowing website.

So far Molly-Mae Taylor has reviewed ‘The Weight of Water’ by Sarah Crossan, while Elle Gordon has reviewed ‘A Greyhound of a Girl’ by Roddy Doyle and ‘A Boy and a Bear in a Boat’ by Dave Shelton.
