Students complete Firebreak course
A group of students completed a five-day programme with Cambridgeshire Fire Service before demonstrating their new skills during a passing-out parade.
The Year 8 and 9s spent the week with specially-trained firefighters to develop their teamwork skills, complete a range of challenges and achieve Unit Award Scheme certificates in CPR and Basic Life Support, Basic Firefighting Skills and Active Citizenship.
The course combined classroom-based learning with practical activity and concluded with a presentation of their skills to family and friends at Wisbech Fire Station.
The Firebreak course aims to challenge young people in a supportive environment so “participants can develop skills around team work and relationship building, focusing on reaching their potential and becoming an active and contributing member of their community.”
The students involved represented TCA extremely well and demonstrated a determination to overcome the challenges presented to them.
