Home-made cakes will be sold in the Academy’s restaurant on Friday, September 28, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Home-made cakes will be sold in the Academy’s restaurant on Friday, September 28, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Cakes will be sold from 8.35am to 9.45am. Students are being asked to remember to bring cash to buy cakes with.

There will also be a raffle for a giant cupcake. Raffle tickets will be sold for 10p each and there will be a collection bucket for loose change.

Students and staff from the Academy’s Learning Support Centre (LSC) and EAL teams will be running the cake sale and afterwards they will run a coffee morning in the LSC.

LSC students will be able to bring someone from home into school to come along and enjoy tea, coffee and cakes between 10.30am and 11.30am.

LSC students have been busy drawing posters and then recreating their efforts on the computer to advertise the cake sale.

Teaching assistant Nicki Cobbin said: “We told the students what Macmillan do and why it’s important that we fundraise for them. We have spoken about who suffers from cancer and the fact that anybody can.

“We decided to do the event as part of our social skills lesson, to have that awareness to know there are things to look for and that cancer does affect everybody, not just those who have cancer but their families too.”
