Students considering a career with the Army attended a drop-in session in Eden on Friday (25th April) to ask questions and find out what the military had to offer.

The stand was well-attended with plenty of students showing an interest in the armed forces.

Hetty Cliss, Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance Ambassador, said: “Students learned the varying roles that the army can offer and the qualifications and routes that they would need to follow for certain career prospects.”

The event was one of many set up to help students make careers choices and gain valuable experience.

Next Thursday (8th May) 25 Year 10s will be going to The Boathouse for an Employability Skills day organised by Fenland District Council.

The students will attend in interview dress and will learn about CV writing, team work and how to build their work skills. They will also take part in speed-dating style interviews to prepare them for college interviews next year.

The schools’ after-school hair and beauty club has proved extremely popular and this week sees 12  Year 8 students starting their training sessions. They will spend six weeks in TCA’s mini-salon learning the basics of hairdressing and observing cutting with staff from Broome Hair of Whittlesey. During the last two weeks of the course they will practice on a client before their parents attend for the final session to watch them style a model.

The next club will be open to Years 8, 9 and 10, with 12 places available.
