Students help shape the future of Wisbech

Year 10 students and some members of staff are set to appear in a film about the future of Wisbech.

A film crew visited the school on Friday (25th April)  to make a video which will be shown to members of the Wisbech 2020 Vision project which is creating a plan for the future of the town and how to make it happen.

They wanted to hear students’ views on the town, what they liked about it and how they thought it could be improved for young people.

The main issue students raised was the lack of facilities in the town, although it was recognised that this is improving. Poor transport links and the lack of a train station were also raised as significant problems.

When asked to describe Wisbech in one word the students’ responses included ‘unique’, ‘historical’, ‘peculiar’ and ‘multicultural’.

Hetty Cliss, Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance Ambassador, said : "I was really impressed with the students' eloquence and views. It was great to hear them saying something constructive about the local area and to know that they are helping to shape the future of Wisbech."

The film will be shown to councillors and other members of the Wisbech 2020 Vision project at a conference called The Time Is Now at The Boathouse.
