Thomas Clarkson Academy could have a future Prime Minister in its ranks, with Year 9 student Tom Barnes setting his sights on Downing Street.

Tom, 13, has been elected to Fenland Youth Council which is a group of students from each secondary school in Fenland dedicated to voicing the opinion of young people in the community.

The council meets every two months and works alongside other groups in the area to ensure they are aware of the issues affecting young people.

Tom said: “We had an assembly in school and members of the Fenland Youth Council told us what they did and asked if anyone else would be interested in doing it. I’m very interested in politics so my dad suggested I gave it a go.

“It’s to get children’s voices and a wide range of people’s ideas heard. I think it works well.”

Tom is enjoying his career in politics so much that he wants to go all the way to the top with ambitions to become Prime Minister one day.
