GCSE results 2014

Around half of Thomas Clarkson Academy’s GCSE students achieved A* to C grades in English and Maths this year.

Around half of Thomas Clarkson Academy’s GCSE students achieved A* to C grades in English and Maths this year.

49% gained the grades in English and 52% in Maths.

There have been some fantastic individual successes and the Academy has seen an improvement in results in Modern Foreign Languages, Science and Art.

Chloe Ball achieved 5 A* or A grades, while Albert Smith, Ben Ayling and Ellisia Tura each gained 3 A* or A grades.

However, results overall were disappointing and changes to the weighting given to different subjects have meant less students than we hoped have achieved 5 A* to C grades.

Principal Clare Claxton said: “Today is about celebrating the achievements of our hardworking students. These are the first students to be affected by the Government’s exam reforms and unfortunately today’s results don’t reflect the huge amount of progress many of them have made in the two years in which the Academy has existed.”

Alex Ives was thrilled to pass all his subjects at C or above, achieving 2 As, 5 Bs and 3 Cs. He said: “I wasn’t expecting that at all, I’m over the moon.” Alex will be returning to the Academy is September to study A Levels.

Georgia Ward gained 17 qualifications, including 6 A grades and also plans to take her A Levels at the Academy. She said: “I’m feeling pretty happy. My results are better than I expected.”
