Martyna Schulz and Sophie Edwards were among the students who created the show-stopping gowns as their big project during the course.

Students were asked to choose an occasion and create an outfit suitable for it. The project was worth 30% of the students’ final grades.

Martyna and Sophie both chose prom as their occasion and created strapless gowns. The girls are both Year 12 students at TCA and created the gowns last year while they were in Year 11.

Sophie said: “It took me a couple of months to make my dress, I worked on it in class and after school. We chose celebrations and had to make something for that celebration, so I chose prom. I was pleased with how the dress turned out in the end.

Martyna said: “It took about a couple of months to make. I chose to take Textiles because I like clothes.”

Teacher Sue Beedham said: “They were probably one of the best groups I have ever had for the sewing skills they showed.

“A lot of them stayed most nights after school to get their dresses done.

“Lots of them also made educational toys like teddy bears and activity cubes, and one student embroidered a pair of gloves.

“One of our students wore the dress she made to the prom.”
