TCA's hunger heroes help food bank

Students and staff at Thomas Clarkson Academy have donated more than 1,000 items of food to Wisbech food bank this Christmas.

Students and staff at Thomas Clarkson Academy have donated more than 1,000 items of food to Wisbech food bank this Christmas.

A food drive was set up by French teacher Kaila Parker and a competition was held to see which of the school’s three communities could donate most items.

In total 1,028 items of non-perishable food were handed over to the food bank, including 48 kilos of rice donated by one family.

Members of Pankhurst community were the school’s ‘hunger heroes’, donating 552 items.

Miss Parker said: “I am so proud of everyone who came together to make this food drive a great success, thankyou all. You have made a difference this Christmas and this is only the start of what we can achieve.”

Teachers also took part in ‘egg Russian roulette’ where the first teacher to smash two raw eggs onto their head had to donate 10 items to the food bank.
