The whole school was involved in the March 26th event, which saw students take part in a number of workshops and activities to raise awareness of and celebrate languages.
Teacher Imogen Newell, who organised the event with Paul Griffith said: “The purpose of the day was to make those who already speak more than one language realise the value of that skill and also to encourage those who don’t to consider languages as a study option or later career path.”
As part of the event Year 8 had a different timetable for the day and took part in a variety of events.
Max Von Tongeren said: “I only speak one language but have learned today about the importance of being multi-lingual.”
Those students who have an additional language were also invited to a special assembly where they heard from guest speakers such as the cabin crew from Easy Jet and Routes into Language East.
Emma Cleave from the Bell Foundation, a charity, which aims to improve lives through language education, told students about how she has used languages throughout her working life to enhance her career.
She said: “Young people may not consider a career in a NGO or charity when they have a language, but it is a very rewarding career option.
“I think this is a fantastic initiative by the academy as it is making students realise the value of the skill they already have and making them think about how they can use them in the future.”
To finish off the day Year 8 students watched a fabulous fashion show in which students modelled the national dress from a number of countries.
