On Christmas Eve people in Iceland exchange gifts of books, and read them straight away in front of a warm fire while eating chocolate.

And the top readers from our academy will also have a book and chocolate in the spirit of the tradition of Jólabókaflóð (pronounced yo-la-bok-a-flot).

“We have been doing this for several years now, it’s a great way to encourage younger readers and is a really nice thing to do for Christmas,” said librarian Miss Robinson.

“It means we can also celebrate our top borrowers and reward them for their continued enjoyment of reading,” she added.

This year’s winners were Alfie and Harry in Year 7, Austin in Year 8, Danny in Year 9, Arman in Year 10, Ethan in Year 11 and sixth formers Maisey and Reicel.
