National Chemistry Week was celebrated in style thanks to some special lessons for Year 7 and 8 students.

 

National Chemistry Week was celebrated in style thanks to some special lessons for Year 7 and 8 students.

Staff from cutting edge bio pharmaceutical analysis firm LGC came in to deliver lessons to students after receiving funding from the Royal Society of Chemistry to help engage young people more fully with chemistry.

She said: “I purposefully chose colourful and bright experiments to engage the students, who seemed to really enjoy it.

“Chemistry can have this image of being quite hard and dull but we wanted to show that it can be full and to show students that there are many careers that you can go into through studying chemistry.” 

Year 8 students Austeja Janaityte said: “It was really cool, especially when liquids were being sprayed onto a Bunsen burner and then turned the flame different colours.”
