TCA students have learned some great business experience after receiving hands on experience from two top companies.
Some Sixth Form and four Year 11 students visited Wisbech food firm Lamb Weston over the course of two days this month and cosmetics firm LUSH also came to TCA to work with Year 9 Hair and Beauty students.
TCA’s Careers Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG) Ambassador Vicky Read said: “The aim of the tour was to give the an insight into how a factory operates; the skills required to maintain the factory and the global nature of business. During the tour the students followed the journey of a potato from entering the factory, being analysed and graded, to being made into the final product such as frozen chips and wedges. The students were able to see the process in action and learn how the company manages its waste in an environmental manner, in addition to learning how big the company is and how far its product travels – chips produced in Wisbech are now being sold in Dubai for example.
“At the end of the tour the students were able to speak to a number of staff including the operational manager and their graduate recruit and were able to taste the products. Lamb certainly made us very welcome, so a big thank you to them for taking the time out to show us around and explain their business.”
LUSH staff explained their products during a visit on December 11th.
Mrs Read said: “ The students have been studying bath products and LUSH came in to talk about their products and show students how they are made. The students got to make a bath bomb and examine other products. They really enjoyed the experience and were able to take home their creations. The event went so well, that we are looking at the staff returning to talk to the Year 10 Hair and Beauty students.”
