This year’s open evening for prospective Year 7 students attracted lots of families keen to see what Thomas Clarkson Academy has to offer.
It was a busy evening with plenty of interactive activities for Year 5 and 6 pupils, from explosive science experiments to dance displays. A particular favourite was the photo booth set up by the humanities department which gave families the chance to dress up in costumes from different periods throughout history. There was also some friendly competition in the PE area, with a number of challenges going on.
Matt Dobbing, Assistant Principal for Key Stage 3, said the feedback from parents was extremely positive. He said: “Our open evening was packed. We showed every aspect of the school and the comments we had from parents were very positive.
“We have also been running tours during the day so parents and pupils can see the school in action and see what we’re about.”
One parent who was impressed by what they saw commented: “When does the application window open? We don't want to miss our chance for our son to come here.”
Parents of children with special educational needs said the Academy’s reputation for supporting SEN pupils had brought them to the open evening, with one saying that the Academy had been recommended them by other parents because of the level of care, support and opportunities available.
The closing date for applications for secondary school places is October 31st 2017. For more details visit www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk.
