Art students have a go on pottery wheels

Students got the chance to try a new skill when they used potters’ wheels during an art class.

A class of Year 10 students made their first ever attempt at throwing their own pots on the wheels during a recent GCSE art and design lesson.

The work they created will form part of their GCSE coursework.

Sarah Loosemore, who led the class, said: “The aim of the activity was for the students to learn new skills.

“It was great to see the students making the most of the excellent facilities we have at Thomas Clarkson Academy. We have three potters’ wheels in P205 and to have potters’ wheels of that quality is really unusual. The students will be making the most of it.

“They truly enjoyed themselves.”

The pots will be fired and will then be glazed by the students.
