I hope to continue sharing my love for PE with so many students as well as progressing my personal career.

Everyone is supportive and the staff really pull together to create a wonderful culture to work in. There are plenty of opportunities to drive your career forwards and the school is constantly evolving.

How long have you worked at TCA?
I’ve worked here since September 2011.

What attracted you to the position at TCA?
The opportunity to enthuse students with my love for Sport. It's essential for well-being and your overall health.

Describe your TCA journey:

After completing my induction year in North Somerset on a maternity cover, I began my journey at TCA teaching PE during the transition from the old building to the new one, which brought an exhilarating feeling. Soon after, I was offered the opportunity to cover the maternity leave of the Deputy Head of Learning Community (Pankhurst). Following that, I applied for the position of Progress Leader, which I held for three years. Eventually, I went on to become the Raising Standards Leader for Year 7.

My heart has always been routed in PE, and when the opportunity to become 2nd in PE came up, I jumped at the opportunity.

What training/professional development opportunities have you taken advantage of?
In-house CPD, exam-board specific courses, TheEverlearner CPD.

What are your ambitions in your role at TCA?
My goal is to provide TCA students with an excellent education that can positively impact their lives, both academically and physically. I am enthusiastic about and possess the skills necessary to lead students in their own pursuit of lifelong healthy, active lifestyles.

Why would you recommend TCA to prospective staff?
Supportive staff; you feel like you’ve made a difference to students; great facilities; excellent progression opportunities; and the fact that good work by staff is praised.

How long have you worked at TCA?
I joined in 2015.

What attracted you to the position at TCA?
When I came for my interview the school tour was amazing. The students were kind and courteous. The school itself is only a few years old and has amazing facilities. I will never forget the first time I saw the living wall in the school’s vast open space, Eden. The living wall is a massive wall of plants shaped into the ‘golden ratio’.

Describe your TCA journey:
When I joined Thomas Clarkson I was fresh out of Teacher Training and I was very apprehensive. The staff here welcomed me with open arms and we continue to this day to be a close knit group where we support each other. Teachers of different subjects often meet and it is great to hear and discuss students, lessons and ideas.

I was given a NQT mentor I will never forget. She was truly an inspiration to me and we had regular NQT meetings. My mentor and the incredible staff at TCA allowed me to settle in and begin my teaching career in the best possible way.

There are weekly training sessions to constantly develop my pedagogy and sessions are sometimes run by different faculties which lets you get fresh ideas and insights.

What are your ambitions in your role at TCA?
I am already helping to spearhead a school wide homework scheme and my teaching skills have even won me an award! I love working at TCA. There are opportunities to move up the ladder and in time I would like to do so. I’m not exactly sure how high or which ladder I will choose but I do intend on taking on more senior roles. Whichever role I choose, it will be here at TCA that I do it.

Why would you recommend TCA to prospective staff?
I think of TCA as taking a holistic approach to prospective staff. Here you will grow and develop in every way, even ways you didn’t know you could. You will be part of a unique school, working with amazing staff.

How long have you worked at TCA?
I joined TCA in the September of 2010.

What attracted you to the position at TCA?
I wanted some experience with secondary school children as I had previously worked within both an infant and primary school.

From the moment I started at TCA I knew this would be a long term job for me. The students and staff were lovely and I was given so many opportunities to grow as an individual.

Describe your TCA journey:
I progressed from a level two teaching assistant to a level three, leading on behavioural, social and emotional interventions. I also spent time working in the alternative provision programme known as 'PREP'. After a few years I decided that maybe a new challenge was on the cards when a cover supervisor position came up. I gave everything to this role, and within a few months was asked to take some lessons myself.  I have now completed my teacher training with support from the school and I love being part of the Humanities teaching team.

What training/professional development opportunities have you taken advantage of?
I have been on several courses and training including a team skills and leadership course, obtained a HLTA qualification and am currently studying again.

What are your ambitions in your role at TCA?
My ambition is to continue to work hard, challenge myself and support our students to achieve.

Why would you recommend TCA to prospective staff?
I would recommend TCA as a place to learn, grow and meet some amazing staff and students.

What attracted you to the position at TCA?
The potential of introducing a new subject to the curriculum. The school’s ethos also attracted me to apply for the post.

Describe your TCA journey:
I originally applied for a performing arts teacher post – they were looking for drama, but I enquired about whether they would be introducing dance into the curriculum. So my first job was teaching dance with a small amount of drama. I then became subject leader for dance and we increased dance in the curriculum so that all students did it in Key Stage 3 and it became an option at GCSE. Following this, I was promoted to Head of Department for Performing Arts (Dance, Drama & Music) and then, Art joined the faculty and I was promoted to Head of Expressive Arts. I took a keen interest in results and ensuring that Year 11 students were doing the best they possibly could, which lead me to take up an intervention leader post. This eventually led me to where I am now as an Vice Principal with responsibility for Raising Standards.

What training/professional development opportunities have you taken advantage of?

TCA encouraged and supported me through my NPQH, which I successfully passed in 2022.
I regularly attend AQA exam based courses with regard to changes and moderation of GCSE Dance work. When I first started at the school, I trained to be a first aider. I regularly attend PiXL conferences which bring a wealth of ideas to my current role.

What are your ambitions in your role at TCA?
At the moment, my ambition is to ensure that every Year 11 student leaves us with their best possible grades in order to do whatever they want to do in the future. This is what motivates me on a daily basis. In the distant future, I would like to continue with my professional development and seek a Vice Principal role.

Why would you recommend TCA to prospective staff?
I have been on an incredible journey here, and the journey has only just begun. The developments here at TCA are incredibly exciting and it is hard not to want to be part of the change, so TCA is for anyone who is looking for a sense of achievement in their career. The students here are also a big part of my recommendation. They are sincere and appreciative of staff who are here to support them through their education.

How long have you worked at TCA?
Six years.

What attracted you to the position at TCA?
TCA has very supportive staff and a good leadership team. I was made aware of the possibilities of career progression available in TCA, which I found very motivating. I found the school infrastructure and the resources in the science department to be of high quality.

Describe your TCA journey:
I joined TCA in 2013 as a teacher of science. In the first year I had the chance to work as a KS3 coordinator. In my second year I was given the chance to become Second in science. Last year I worked as an A-level and Separate Science coordinator. As a leader of science I had the opportunity to develop a comprehensive curriculum which is tailor-made for the students.

What training/professional development opportunities have you taken advantage of?
During the last five years, I had the chance to attend various professional development courses but the one that stands out is the Aspirant middle leader course. This course boosted my confidence as a middle leader and helped me to gain the required skills to lead a department. Since September 2017, I have been working as Head of Science. This year I am planning to start my NPQSL course sponsored by the school.

What are your ambitions in your role at TCA?
I am a very enthusiastic science teacher and as a leader of science, I want to give our students the best experiences in science that inspires them to understand the world around them.

Since I started teaching in TCA, the standard of A Level and GCSE chemistry results has been on the rise. This has resulted in an increase in the intake of students for A Level sciences.

As a leader of science, my ambition is to raise the overall standard of teaching and learning in the department so that our students will have the best opportunities to enjoy the subject of science.

Why would you recommend TCA to prospective staff?
