Safeguarding

Safeguarding in education logoAt Thomas Clarkson Academy, safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. We are committed to promoting the safety and wellbeing of our children. We have a clear Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy to make sure every child feels safe and supported.

Our Commitment:
  • Protecting Children: We work to keep children safe from harm in school, online and in the wider community.

  • Safe Environment: We provide a secure, caring and inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

  • Shared Responsibility: All staff, governors and visitors understand their roles in safeguarding and follow national guidance and best practice.

Our Principles:
  • Child-Centred: We always put the needs and safety of children first.

  • Equal Protection: Every child is protected, regardless of background or circumstance.

  • Listening to Children: We ensure every child’s voice is heard and respected.

How We Keep Children Safe
  • Safer Recruitment: All staff and volunteers are thoroughly checked before joining the academy.

  • Training: Staff and volunteers receive regular safeguarding training to identify and respond to concerns.

  • Dedicated Support: Our experienced safeguarding team (DSLs and DDSLs) provide guidance and intervention when needed.

  • Working Together: We collaborate with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for our students.

At Thomas Clarkson Academy We aim to create an atmosphere where students feel secure, valued and confident to speak up. We recognise and respond swiftly to any concerns, promote self-esteem and self-respect, and foster a positive, supportive school culture.

Please report any concerns to a Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. More information about the safeguarding team can be found within our full policy here.

Our school is part of Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a partnership between police and schools, through which schools are notified of incidents of domestic abuse which may have had an impact on a child or children attending the school.

Safeguarding teams use this information to ensure that students are closely monitored and to implement support, where appropriate.

More information about Operation Encompass can be found here.
