Online Safety
The Internet can be a fantastic place for children and young people where they can talk to friends, be creative and have fun. However, just like in the real world sometimes things can go wrong. If you or your child are worried or upset about something which has happened on the Internet there is help out there.
Internetmatters.org is an online safety platform designed for parents and carers helping you to keep your child safe in a digital world - for quick access to advice by category, see our Child Safety Online section.

Understanding Social Media Algorithms - Childnet
Social media is an important driving force of the online space. Children and young people are among the core users of these platforms, but what drives the content they see? This all seeing eye present in social media software, is the algorithm. What your pupils see on their device's is wholly directed by what these algorithms deem interesting to them. As professionals in the educational space, it is important to understand how these work and how they determine what's popular. In this vein, Childnet currently has an excellent blog article on the topic that's well worth reading. If interested in this area, please follow the link below:

Safeguarding is Everyone's Business
At Thomas Clarkson Academy we aim to provide a safe, happy disciplined environment, in which our pupils can learn and fulfil their potential. We promote positive values and behaviour and encourage everyone to cooperate with and respect others as well as themselves.
Thomas Clarkson Academy follows the Brooke Weston Trust behaviour policy (TPO/STU01). Section 2.1 references cyber-bullying and section 6.6 gives parental guidance for how to report cyber-bullying that occurs outside of school hours. Please click here.
TCA specific policies linked to anti-bullying
The Student Services team is always available to support students with any issues or concerns they may have, and we encourage students to speak out.
